Then a rental inspection comes up, or a painter quotes, or the light hits the ceiling at the wrong angle in winter and the mould is suddenly obvious. Cleaning them is a fraction of the cost of repainting, and in most Christchurch homes it is all that is needed. CEILING MOULD IS A CHRISTCHURCH PROBLEM Cold winters, damp air and homes that were not built for either. BEFORE PAINTING Painters generally want the surface washed first, because paint does not bond properly to grease, nicotine or dust. A wash before painting improves coverage, can save a coat, and sometimes means the room does not need painting at all. If you have a painter booked, tell us and we will work to their schedule. PAINT TYPES MATTER Flat and matte paints are delicate. Scrub them the way you would a semi-gloss and you burnish the finish, leaving a shiny patch that is more obvious than the mark you removed. We patch test out of sight first and work to the paint type. If a surface will not come clean without damaging it, we stop and tell you.
