DEEP CLEAN, REGULAR CLEAN, SPRING CLEAN — WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE These get used interchangeably and they should not be, because you can easily pay for the wrong one. A regular clean is maintenance. Surfaces, floors, bathrooms, kitchen benches, a vacuum and a mop. It keeps a home that is already in good order in good order, and it is what a weekly or fortnightly booking covers. A deep clean is restorative. It assumes the detail work has not been done for a while, so it goes after built-up grease, soap scum, limescale, dust on top of doors and in tracks, and the inside of things rather than the outside. It takes considerably longer and it is priced on condition, not just floor area. A spring clean is a deep clean with a seasonal trigger — same work, booked because it is spring rather than because something specific happened. If your home is in reasonable shape and you just want it maintained, book a regular clean. You do not need this. WHEN A DEEP CLEAN IS ACTUALLY WORTH IT Moving into a place someone else has lived in, when you would rather not inherit their bathroom. Before putting a house on the market, where a clean home genuinely photographs better and shows better. After renovation or painting, when fine dust has settled into everything. After illness in the house. Coming back to a rental or holiday home that has been sitting empty. Or simply starting a regular cleaning schedule from a good baseline, which is the most common reason our clients book one. That last case is worth understanding. A first deep clean followed by fortnightly maintenance is usually cheaper over a year than repeated one-off cleans, because each maintenance visit is short when it starts from a clean baseline. HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED ONE Honestly, less often than most cleaning companies suggest. If you are on a regular schedule, the detail work is being picked up as you go and an annual deep clean is plenty for most homes. Households with pets, smokers, or a lot of cooking benefit from every six months. If nobody is cleaning weekly, then a deep clean every three to four months is doing the work a regular clean would otherwise do, and a schedule would cost you less. WHAT DRIVES THE PRICE Condition, more than size. A three bedroom that has been maintained is faster than a well kept one bedroom that has not been touched in two years. The things that add time are oven and rangehood build-up, bathroom limescale and mould, greasy kitchen cupboards, and anything requiring furniture to be moved. Deep cleans start from $171.35 for a single storey home in moderate condition, and we confirm the price after seeing the property rather than guessing on the phone. WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED A deep clean is cleaning, not repair or restoration. It will not fix carpet worn through, stains that have soaked into underlay, chipped paint, scratched vinyl, or mould that is coming from a building fault such as a leak or inadequate ventilation. We can clean surface mould and will point out anything structural, but treating the cause is a maintenance job.
